The fee no listing shows upfront

Almost every flight here carries a government park fee and fuel surcharge that is not included in the online price: US$35–50 per person on the Zimbabwe side (by flight length), around US$7–23 on the Zambia side. Every comparison card on this site states the exact fee next to the price, as published on the seller’s page.

Victoria Falls Bridge over the Zambezi — the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia

Two countries, one waterfall

Flights take off on both sides of the border. From Victoria Falls Town in Zimbabwe, three operators are documented on our comparison pages: the Zambezi Helicopter Company, MJair (Kazungula Airstrip) and Chikopokopo Helicopters — with a government fee of US$37–50 per person paid at check-in. From Livingstone in Zambia, Livingstone’s Adventure flies helicopters from Maramba Airfield and microlights from Batoka Sky, with lower local fees. Several Zimbabwe-side sellers also pick up guests staying in Livingstone at the border.

When to fly: season and water level

The main travel season is the dry season from June to September. The Zambezi’s water level is highest from February to May and lowest from September to December — at high water the spray cloud can hide the gorge from the air, at low water the falls’ geology is fully visible. Travel guides name October and November as the best compromise for aerial views; the operators themselves promise no more than flights “all year round, weather permitting”. Flights only operate in fair weather, and morning departures are widely recommended.

How this comparison works

Every price on this site is loaded live from the booking systems of GetYourGuide and Viator and refreshed several times a day — nothing is typed in by hand, so what you see is what the seller currently charges. Underneath each price we state the government fee that is collected at the helipad, exactly as published on the seller’s page, with the date we verified it. We list only flights whose operator, departure point and booking options we could document; where a seller’s information was contradictory, the flight is not listed. If you book through our links, the seller pays us a commission — the price for you is identical either way.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls cost?

The short 12–15 minute flights currently start at around US$170–190 online per person, plus a government fee of US$35–37 paid in cash at check-in on the Zimbabwe side (US$15 total in local fees on the Zambia side). The longer 22–30 minute flights start at around US$270 online plus a US$50 fee. The comparison cards on each flight page show today’s live prices.

Should I fly from Zimbabwe or from Zambia?

Both work. The Zimbabwe side (Victoria Falls Town) has more operators, more time slots and the documented anchor products with thousands of reviews; the Zambia side (Livingstone) has clearly lower local fees and is the only side with microlight flights. Several Zimbabwe-side sellers pick up guests staying in Livingstone at the border free of charge.

When is the best time for a flight?

The main travel season is the dry season from June to September. The Zambezi peaks between February and May — at high water the spray cloud is enormous and can hide the gorge from the air; at low water (September to December) the geology of the falls is fully visible. Travel guides name October and November as the best compromise for aerial views; the operators themselves promise no more than flights all year round, weather permitting.
